Chorda® Conflict Resolution Training for Health Care Professionals
(Endorsed by the Texas Hospital Association and the Texas Nurses Association)

CHORDA 101: MAP
® Training offers a three-part model for responding to any complaint and for constructively initiating a complaint resolution process when you are the one with the concern, to reduce conflict-related costs and enhance relationships with patients, families, hospital and medical staff, and outside parties.

MAP® Training for Leadership provides focused skills training to address situations faced by hospital executives, board members, department heads, and other health care leaders.

MAP® Training for Nurses and Other Clinical Staff provides intensive skills training based upon case scenarios depicting circumstances nurses frequently face in the workplace.

MAP® Training for Non-Clinical Staff focuses on the opportunities presented to administrators and non-clinical staff to resolve conflict and contribute to a collaborative work environment.

MAP® Training for Physicians offers medical staff and physicians in private practice proactive tools for reducing liability risk and building relationships with patients and staff. Appropriate for all practitioners (nurse practitioners, PA’s, podiatrists, psychologists, chiropractors, etc. ).

MAP® Training for Combined Audiences leverages collaborative learning involving members of diverse groups and helps create a common language to manage conflict and strengthen teamwork.

CHORDA 201: Collaboration Skills trains participants to use six core skills for building consensus and resolving conflict involving patients/families, hospital staff, medical staff, or outside parties. Case scenarios and intensive skills training are based on situations that frequently occur in health care settings and the concerns and requirements of health care professionals. Integration of collaboration skills within the facility contributes to reduction of conflict related costs, strengthened relationships, and enhanced reputation.

Collaboration as a Leadership Skill provides hospital executives, board members, department heads, and other leaders in health care with the skills to lead others in times of change. Participants learn to draw upon the best of collaborative tools to mobilize others to work together to honor the organizational mission and achieve strategic goals.

Collaboration Skills for Nurses and Other Clinical Staff provides nurse managers and supervisors, directors of nursing, and clinical staff supervisors in all departments with the skills to negotiate effectively in one-on-one situations and to use informal mediation to help others resolve conflict. In a highly interactive format, training focuses on the unique requirements of nurse managers to contribute to patient care by building relationships with patients, families, teams, medical staff, and hospital staff. Nurse and clinical staff managers learn through case scenarios, practice, and discussion to apply practical conflict management techniques to current workplace situations (e.g., conflict with a patient or physician, peer review, staff evaluations).

Collaboration Skills for Non-Clinical Staff
presents skills for administrators and other non-clinical staff in supervisory roles to build a collaborative environment through the application of effective conflict management skills. Legal staff, administrative staff, HR staff, patient advocates, ombudspeople, and others engage in intensive practice of proven skills used by professional negotiators and mediators. Participants learn to negotiate effectively, assist others to negotiate, and best utilize opportunities to resolve conflict and contribute to a collaborative work environment.

Collaboration Skills for Physicians provides intensive training for medical chiefs of staff, medical peer review and ethics committee members, and physicians and other practitioners in any specialty with effective skills for reducing liability risk and building relationships with patients and staff. Participants learn negotiation and informal mediation skills applicable to the demanding and often time-consuming situations physicians face on a daily basis.

Collaboration Skills for Combined Audiences allows a blend of professional groups to learn and practice the six core skills together. This approach can enhance the learning experience and direct transfer of new skills and behaviors to the workplace, strengthening interprofessional and interdepartmental teamwork and satisfaction.
